Church Cemetery Committee
The Church Cemetery Committee consists of a group of individuals interested in preserving the historic interests of the churchyard burial ground that dates back to the early 19th century. Many churches throughout New England have similar burial grounds or graveyards, which originated from Europe where families could not afford to have the deceased buried beneath the church in a crypt. The head stones show members of the Assonet Baptist Church and later, the First Christian Church. Memorial paver stones line the brick walkway, which ends at a bench near the northeast corner of the graveyard, and allow us to continue the beautification of our site. Order forms with pricing information and sizes can be picked up at the south exit of the church in the information rack.
